The Price of Honor by WonderlandNinja The Price of Honor by WonderlandNinja
A darker look at Mulan's fate after battle.
After returning to her controlled lifestyle, she most likely suffered PTSD and this painting reflects her turmoil. The fact that the quality of the lower half is so much crappier than the top half severely bothers me.
Oil on canvas 14"x18"

love mulan/ping's expression its just so.. sad yet the features remain so soft and somewhat sweet, love how the ripping of the fan extends to the other mulan

oh my goodness thank you!!! yeah this is one of my personal favorites, kinda inspired by the live-action version of mulan because it touched me so deeply. also when i draw faces, i tend to mirror their expression, so the entire time i painted her, i had the most intense expression on, and my mother walked in wondering what was wrong. xD

i always wondered how she could possibly stand living in a male dominated society after all she'd worked for. PTSD was probably the lest of it haha
beautiful work though and the bottom isn't bad it kind of gives it a better effect that way :)

that's what i thought too! especially in ancient chinese society when women were expected to be so controlled and gentle. for the men, after war people call them a hero and excuse any behavior, but women were still expected to act a certain way. she must have been ripping at the seams trying to follow those expectations after she came home.
and thank you so much! haha this was one of my personal favorites to paint.
